The teachers are able to plan curriculum and make modifications based on their assessments. Like all early childhood programs, our methods of evaluation and assessment of our students has changed over the years, with an increase in observation and documentation. This play based preschool provides activities throughout the day that challenge each student and allow them to grow and learn at their own pace. The Child Study Center still has part time options for those who wish to enroll their children for just a few hours. This will give families the opportunity to enroll for 12 months a year. The Preschool will be adding a summer program beginning in June 2018. The Preschool is now open 7:30 AM until 6 PM Monday through Friday. The program originally offered care Monday through Thursday in the morning starting at 8:30 AM and running until noon with an added lunch option until 1 PM. The playground was also renovated by adding a large sandbox, a tree house, and a tricycle path. Teachers could see all areas of their classrooms and the learning environments were clearly defined. By knocking down a few walls and removing closets, we created open spaces that were easy to supervise. The building was renovated in 2008 to improve enrollment by attracting customers to new classrooms. In the past 10 years, the Child Study Center has seen many changes. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you? We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy.

All college students are supervised by the professional teaching staff of the Child Study Center. College students were able to observe children at the Child Study Center and apply what they were learning in their college classes… The program is still available to college students who conduct a Practicum (150 hours in the classroom) or a Senior Internship (192 hours in the classroom). The Preschool began as a Laboratory School for students studying Psychology with a Concentration in Child Development at Pine Manor College. The expansive playground and beautiful college campus offer hours of exploration and adventure. of Early Education and Care, the college owned preschool center offers a high-quality program for children in the Newton/Brookline/West Roxbury/Jamaica Plain and surrounding communities.
